ABOUT US
Established in 1982, Voices of New York is a 25-member adult community chorus
that sings in two-to-four-part harmony and performs concerts throughout
Manhattan and the New York area.
Singers' ages range from 30's to 70's, with most in their 40's or older with experience
levels from novice to extensive. Sight-reading is useful but by no means essential.
As long as you have a good musical ear, we are happy to have you on board.
Rehearsals are Mondays 6:00-8:00pm from September through December and from late January through May.
The September term is devoted to sacred and secular Christmas, seasonal and Hanukkah music. The January term features many styles of music including madrigal, religious, operetta, patriotic, classical, folk, Broadway and pop. Two to three concerts at multiple locations are held at the end of each term, and solo opportunities are available to interested participants.
Regular attendance is necessary to build the ensemble, but life is life, and occasional absences are permitted. Term fee helps cover the conductor's and accompanist's stipends, sheet music, rehearsal space rental, and operating expenses.
We are a dedicated and friendly bunch who work hard and have fun! Everyone who can sing on pitch is most welcome and we are often short of male voices, so gents, please don't be shy!
